Geographic Location and Time

Macau is located in the Pearl River Delta on the southeast coast of China, at 113°35' east longitude and 22°14' north latitude, about 60 kilometers northeast of Hong Kong.

Macau consists of the Macau Peninsula (9.3 square kilometers), Taipa (7.9 square kilometers), Coloane (7.6 square kilometers), Cotai Reclamation Area (6.1 square kilometers), New Town A District (1.4 square kilometers), New Town C District (0.3 square kilometers) and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Zhuhai-Macao Port Artificial Island

Macau Port (0.7 square kilometers), with a total area of 33.3 square kilometers.

Population

Macau has a population of approximately 687,900, most of whom live on the Macau Peninsula, and the two outlying islands have a smaller population. The majority of Macau residents are Chinese, accounting for about 90% of the total population, while the rest are Portuguese, Filipino, Vietnamese and other nationalities.

Language

Chinese and Portuguese are the current official languages. Cantonese is widely used in daily communication, but many residents can also understand Mandarin (Mandarin). English is widely used in trade, tourism and business.

Visa

Tourists to Macau must have a valid passport or travel document and a visa.

Except for visitors who are exempted from the requirement of “visa” and “entry permit” by law, all visitors to Macao must hold a “visa” or “entry permit” to enter Macao. Macao entry visas can be applied for through the embassies and consulates of the People’s Republic of China abroad and should be used within the validity period, otherwise they will become invalid; the holder is allowed to stay in Macao for the period specified on the visa. Visitors who need a visa can also apply for an “entry permit” (i.e. “port visa”) upon arrival in Macao. However, travelers from certain countries must apply for a valid Macau visa through the Chinese embassy or consulate abroad before entering Macau. "Entry Permit" (i.e. "Port Visa") Fee: Individual: MOP200 (one-time), MOP300 (multiple) Family passport: MOP400 (one-time), MOP600 (multiple) Children under 12 years old: MOP100 (one-time), MOP150 (multiple) Groups of at least ten people who present travel documents and are organized by the same tour operator: MOP100 per person (one-time), MOP150 per person (multiple).

Persons who have paid the multiple entry and stay authorization fee can enter and exit the country multiple times within the period of the granted stay authorization (up to 30 days) without paying any more fees.
